My grandmother, Barbara Bennett Hart, wrote this hymn.<\/span><\/p>\nO give us homes built firm upon the Savior,
\nWhere Christ is Head and Counselor and Guide;
\nWhere every child is taught His love and favor
\nAnd gives his heart to Christ, the crucified:
\nHow sweet to know that tho his footsteps waver
\nHis faithful Lord is walking by his side!<\/p>\n
O give us homes with godly fathers, mothers,
\nWho always place their hope and trust in Him;
\nWhose tender patience turmoil never bothers,
\nWhose calm and courage trouble cannot dim;
\nA home where each finds joy in serving others,
\nAnd love still shines, tho days be dark and grim.<\/p>\n
O give us homes where Christ is Lord and Master,
\nThe Bible read, the precious hymns still sung;
\nWhere prayer comes first in peace or in disaster,
\nAnd praise is natural speech to every tongue;
\nWhere mountains move before a faith that\u2019s vaster,
\nAnd Christ sufficient is for old and young.<\/p>\n
O Lord, our God, our homes are Thine forever!
\nWe trust to Thee their problems, toil, and care;
\nTheir bonds of love no enemy can sever
\nIf Thou art always Lord and Master there:
\nBe Thou the center of our least endeavor-
